Thanks for writing.  I am glad you enjoy the poan web site.  Sorry to the communities that show us they have some police activities, but I guess almost all communities have such.  I think you will like getting away from the cold, snow and ice of Ohio.  Today, was probably one of the most beautiful days down here in Port Orange.  It gets hot, but we have air conditioners, pools and the ocean.  Thanks for your interest -  hank

Just wanted to say hello.
I found your site about a month ago and enjoy reading the radio logs. I've been able to get a rough idea of some of the shadier areas in PO.
My parents will be moving to Port Orange in the next few months and I plan to move with my children around this time next year.
(we are in Ohio now)
Thanks for the time you have put into your site to keep people informed!

Dear Capt,

If not the same, please pass my appreciation on to "CaptNemo"
for his extraordinary "video car rides".

I truly enjoyed your friendly drive-along through
the SummerTree sections (vids 1-4 dated 07-19-2009)
posted on YouTube. I have been helping my Mom with
her "cyber real estate search" of Florida properties, and
she has bookmarked several in Port Orange. Imagine my
surprise when I stumbled across your videos. You have
done what I promised to do with her this summer,
namely fly down and spend a few days driving around
just looking at the neighborhoods. I'll still be doing that,
but you made it much more real.

Thank you. I will pass these video links along to her.
Bless you and good health.

  wonderful information supplied on
this site about Port Orange

Hello,

I just wanted to thank you for all the wonderful information supplied on
this site about Port Orange.  We live in Toronto, Canada, and will be
moving to Port Orange probably this fall.  I stumbled upon the site, and
it provides such valuable input.

My husband & I came down last year to look at the area/community  (in
preparation) so this additional footage is of great value.
Specifically, I found the webcam "tour" data wonderful (ie: City Centre,
Pavilion, etc.) for providing actual streetside footage, and the
accompanying narrative descriptions.

Keep up the great work!

Regards,
Marianne/Toronto

I just wanted to let you know that I love your website.

My son has recently bought a home there and I plan to move to Port Orange within the next year.  I love being able to see what's going on without having to plow through a dozen different websites or newspaper sites.

Thanks!!

I love your images of Port Orange!

Hello Capt Nemo 72000! I am interested in moving to the Port Orange area and have enjoyed your well documented sights and sounds. I notices in an video you did last year you had the new condos aling the river called Halifax Landing. I was wondering if you had an updated video onthe condos and the area surrounding them. Likewise do you have any of the Paler Chiropractic school near the town center or its Clinic on Clyde Morris? Hopefully I can return the favor. Thank you.

Hank,

I am considering relocating to the Port Orange area and found the POI website through a search. You have filled this site with so many useful and helpful things! The police log is great - it makes me feel more comfortable that where I'm going has the same stupid criminals and inane happenings as we do here - we have a police log in our local newspaper which shows frequent calls from an elderly lady that reports either her house is shaking, or she is hearing "noises" :-).

Glad to see the list of approved dog walking parks as well.

Any advice you want to give me about the area would be great - Ashton Point looks like my best bet on a resonably priced apartment that gets my 12 year old into a good school, near a golf course, etc. I only saw one reference to Williamson Road on your police log and it was a traffic incident. From that, am I safe to assume that the area that Ashton Point is in is a fairly good neighborhood?

Thanks for all you do - and now you know how helpful you are to people outside the PO area, too!

Have a great day!

From Linda L., regarding POI web site:

Thank you very much, I think this is a wonderful service.  We've lived
in Port Orange for 18 years and loved every minute of it.  It's a great
town where we've felt safe and secure, and our police force is
absolutely the best!  Thanks for helping us keep up with what's going on
in our town!

Good Evening Hank!
My name is Denise and I live just outside PO, but I work in PO
and have children in PO schools. I originally hail from Patchogue,
and just wanted you to know how much I enjoy your site. My family
originated in Brooklyn (actually Sweden, Germany and Hungary!),
moved east in the late 40's, and I was born in Brookhaven. Been
in the Daytona area since 1982, but still a NY girl at heart.

I love the memories on your site....and even the mention of Robert Moses
brought a smile to my face as I remember going across the Robert Moses
causeway to Smith Point. They've really built a beautiful memorial there
for the plane crash victims off that coast.

My grandfather, father and uncle were all Merchant Marines and
I spent LOTS of time on the water and at the shipping terminals in
NJ and Staten Island. My grandparents also had a marina in
Patchogue Shores.

Keep up the great site...KUDOS to you for the wonderful job you are
doing. My daughter is a photography student at DBCC and I've been
bugging her to send you some pics.

Have a great evening!!!

Hank;

Just wanted to drop you a quick line and let you know how much I like
your site. I have been a police officer for 25 years now. I retired from
a municipal department in western Massachusetts, and presently am
the mid shift desk Sergeant. (military) The money is great, the hours
stink!! J I've been trying for two years now to convince my wife of 25
years to move with me to Florida. I fell in love with the Tampa area
while deployed there at the onset of this war we're in. She won't budge
. J typical New England girl. I've got her convinced on the six month split
when I retire again. Looking for a home in the Carolinas, or maybe upper|
Florida. The hurricanes scare the heck out of her (rightfully so). Anyway,|
Port Orange looks like an awesome place. Thanks for the photos, and
your site helps these long night shifts go by.

I read your commentary and found some very interesting things.
I do not have a subscription to a newspaper.  Its not because
I'm cheap
or wish to remain uninformed, I just don't have the time to sit
down,
have a cup of coffee and indulge in reading the paper.

I get my news online for local, national, and international news.
I read on my time and I read local, national, and international
papers.
In this way I tend to get a less biased view of what is happening.

I have added POI to my daily reading, I find it has great local news,
much more than either the News-Journal or Sentinel provides.
I'm not interested in some of the pages because they don't relate
to my life.

As an amateur digital photographer I love your pictures
and might suggest that you run a mini course on digital
photography
on your web pages.

These are just some of my comments and kudos for a job well done.
As much as I like a beautiful sunrise or sunset there must be
other things between them that makes life worth living
and you surely fill that with all that you do.

Pete

Hello Hank;
First I must tell you how much I enjoy Port Oranges Images.
I use to wonder what was going on when I heard lots of
sirens fire trucks
ambulance, police cars.  I would check the local newspaper
the next day and never find out what was happening
or I just couldn't find the time to go through the paper
to look it up. But, Now , with Port Orange Images
I am very informed about what is happening in my world.
You do an unbelievable job, I just don't know
if Port Orange knows how lucky we are to have you
and all the work that you do.
You are amazing.
Linda Mac Donald  - Port Orange, Florida
Also I am very proud to have my photo's up on your pages.
I have enclosed another image that I have taken
in my neighborhood and I will be sending more.
Thanks again for such a great service to our community.
Thanks so much

Hello Hank. Your site has the best images I've seen.
The picture of The Atlantic as you crest the Dunlawton Bridge
is most exciting.
Even as a young child in the 60's and 70's that approach was exciting
because we had driven for 8 solid hours and that was the first
look at the beach.

I love the Port Orange/DBS area. I'm retiring from 25 years of work
in EMS in Alabama in about 12-18 months and want to move there.
Maybe we could start a retired public service group or something.

Anyhow, enjoyed the web site. Very nice.

Mr. Springer, hello my name is Martin .......  and I'm
writing you from Pennsylvania.  I just wanted to thank you
for creating such a great site of Port Orange pictures.  I
have some friends who moved to Port Orange about three years
ago.  This year was the first time I visited them and wound
up coming on four different occasions.  I really like Port
Orange too.  In fact, I'm recently an adult student who has
graduated with an Elementary Ed. degree.  I am trying to get
a teaching job up here and /or possibly in one of Port
Orange's fine schools.  You asked what type of Pictures you
may include I would ask some of the schools!  I've checked
into Port Orange's crime rate and was glad to find out it
was so low.  Would you know why all the surrounding areas
seem to be so high?  {Daytona, Holly Hill, etc.}  If I would
move to Port Orange I have a feeling my semi retired mother
would soon follow to find a place of her own.  Thanks for
all your efforts!  Take care, Martin

Martin, thanks for writing.  I suspect that the crime rate in Port Orange
is lower than other near by areas for two reasons;

    1.  Demographics.
2.  Port Orange has a  professional police department that takes
its job seriously
and tolerates no nonsense.

I am not comfortable taking photos of schools during these times of
terrorism and sexual predators. But you can find out a lot about the
Volusia County School system at

Hi Hank:

What a great find!!  Came across this morning's article
"POI" in the Journal
and jumped right on your great Web Site. .

My wife and I have been residents of Port Orange for the past 15 years
but are still classified as "Snowbirds" as we spend the summer months
in Massachusetts with our family.
We do read the News Journal while up North but now we've found
"The frosting on the Cake".  Your URL is now listed in our Favorites
and will be greatly appreciated while away from home.

I spend many hours (too many) with my hobby on the computer.
Like you, I'm "Hooked" on Digital photography.
I am using a Canon G5 and Photoshop software.
Trying to learn all the tools and techniques in PS is where
I spend all those hours...
. but it's fun!!

Dear Henry and all who help create POI:

I heard of this web-site through the article in the News-Journal.
I finally sat down this a.m. to take a look around.

How in the heck do you do it?  So many events covered and
absolutely excellent pictures of each - better coverage than the news itself.

I for one appreciate your dedication.  This will be a web-site
frequented often by myself and I will be forwarding it on to
those I know who have moved away from this area.

And, as a side-note,  what about a dating site for PO residents?
I kinda liked that idea!!!  I'd also love to see an area for homeowners willing to sell their homes at reasonable prices.  (While I understand that real estate
prices have gone up in the area, some of the homes I've seen
for sale used to sell for $64,000 and are now at $175,000.
There must be some willing sellers not wanting - correction-
not needing  to capitalize on the sale of their homes.)

Keep up the superb work!!!

so I went and had a look,
I found it quite impressive, beautiful photography.
I would like to know what program you use "FrontPage" or
"Dreamweaver" also what digital camera you use
for the impressive pictures?

Keep up the Great Work!!
Chuck R.

p.s. I plan to be a frequent visitor to the site
and spread the word about it, my wife is Australian
and all of her people "down under" will love to get the
link to this site I'm sure.

Hank,

Congratulations on the article published today in the
News Journal on POI .
This should help out the old ratings!

POI does provide a convenient forum for Port Orange residents
to express their views
and I hope other readers will get involved and write to POI,
especially on local issues.

It seems many people I talk to believe our current city council
has become somewhat "disconnected" from residents and voters,
and I have noted previously on POI, that many hold the feeling
the city council
is simply "going to do-whatever they want to do".

Sadly I have to note today- that is going to be true-until people
start to get involved.

This is quite an admirable undertaking you have accomplished.
Lot of work.
Beautiful images and great information.
I surfed in and around admiring the photos, reading articles,
enjoying poetry etc.
But, in the back of my mind I was looking for one thing.
Information regarding parks that allow dogs on leash and off leash.
The closest one we have found is in Holly Hill.
Does Port Orange have any or do they have plans for one.
The article in today's New Journal is what brought your site to
my attention.
I wish I had known about it earlier.  Many new folks in town would enjoy.
Hope today's paper brings you much attention.

New to Port Orange and loving it.

Port Orange is
fortunate to have the POI site keeping our residents informed
and involved
in activities and events occurring in our City. Like a lot of people, I
regularly read the commentaries from local residents. I find them

questions about
things that are happening in Port Orange and impact our

attempt to respond when it is appropriate to the questions

June 16, 2004, from Linda, Cary, N.C.

I would most appreciate your reminisces - the cap gun story
about your Mom
vengefully  throwing the gun out the window was hilarious.
It brought back
the memories of those red cap rolls  - since having a toy gun
was out of the
question for me, I would sneak to the "candy store" - buy
the caps and just
use a rock on the pavement directly on the caps.

The other day I appreciated reading the flood weather alert
used at the top
banner  - although not living now in Port Orange, and not
immediately in any
danger (!)  - I do anticipate someday sitting at my desk in Port Orange,
reading POImages, and benefiting by such timely data.

Uppermost is knowing you are out and about and can express
your unique take
on events (like the mock terror drill) without risking censure.  And what's
all this fuss about turtles anyway??

Thanks again for all these efforts!
