The priorities of government and role of media skewed excerpts follow: ....The voting public is turned off more than ever... ....The closest I got to County Manager Jim Dinneen Wednesday was an appointment through his secretary who squeezed me in for a one-hour 10 a.m. appointment Tuesday. That's five days from today. I have uncovered some troubling pending that goes far beyond Nicole Carni's salary. I won't reveal it here, but once I publish that segment in NSB News' investigative series, "Show Me the Money: New Smyrna Beach," some people are going to have egg on their faces. Of course being that our operation is exclusively online with very limited resources, we are not taken seriously until the stories are published. The politicians and bureaucrats don't seem to recognize what the public can't get enough of and that's who has their hands on the tax money.... ....There was plenty of drama at Wednesday night's joint meeting of the New Smyrna Beach City Commission and the CRA, but you wouldn't know it reading the agenda-reporting style story in this morning's News-Journal. When you see our videos, you'll see for yourselves how screwed up things are even as the mayor brags about the CRA streetscapes finished during his two-year tenure. You'll see how he offers an apology to CRA Chairman Jim Kosmas who had to pay back a $1,900 grant his CRA colleagues voted for him. And there's the apology from the mayor for the $20,000 grant CRA Chad Schilsky was forced to rescind. Mayor Adam Barringer, however, makes no mention of his own role in piggybacking on Schilsky's grant for his own financial gain through his construction company. And low and behold, Barringer's role is not mentioned in the News-Journal article while the story alludes to the two CRA members having been accused of "unwittingly violating ethics laws by benefiting from receipt of CRA grants in the past." The "unwittingly" term came from CRA consulting attorney Mark Hall, who of course, was the attorney of record in previously stating the grants were proper. The one commissioner who couldn't or wouldn't challenge Hall is Jim Hathaway, a candidate for a seat on the county council in the 2012 elections. NSB News will explain why in an upcoming segment of its Show Me the Money series. Our videos will also highlight some of the key players from the joint meeting who have connections to the SVAA scandal. Again, more in-depth explanation in upcoming Show Me segments. It will take us a couple of days to process the videos. In the meantime, NSB News has to wait for Dinneen to satisfy the News-Journal, having given the newspaper public records denied to NSB News for that paper's Sunday edition on Carni, follow-ups with the News-Journal after Carni's firing Tuesday and, of course, the conference call Wednesday.... read the complete report at nsbnews.net

Well..Tomorrow I have a meeting about the medical coverage we provide to our employees. I got a sneak preview, and it appears our medical insurance costs are going up another 17%, that is on top of the 26% last year! That's 43 percent in two years. Please, tell me again how Obamacare is making medical insurance affordable?
I have been doing some interviews. I am amazed how people tell me, they used to work for a company, then were laid off and are now contracted employees, with less salary and no benefits, For that very same company.
It’s so clear to me where this is going. Insurance companies must know, that a national system (Please, don’t feed me the BS about having choice) is coming and trying to make the money while they can.
It’s just matter of time, before all companies won’t offer medical and we will all be begging Uncle Obama and Aunt Nancy to take care of us. It’s what they want.

The Altamira (Four Lanes, LLC) and Dunlawton Yorktowne (Dunlawton Yorktowne, LLC) properties are located on the east side of Dunlawton Avenue, between Taylor Branch Road and Yorktowne Boulevard. The proposed development of these properties consists of 336,000 SF of retail/office along with associated site improvements. The 336,000 SF includes the proposed Altamira project (205,000 SF) currently under review and development capacity for the Dunlawton Yorktowne property (131,000 SF). The traffic impact analysis completed by Lassiter Transportation Group, Inc., projects impacts to the Dunlawton Avenue/Clyde Morris Boulevard intersection, the I-95 interchange area, the Summertrees Road extension, and the Yorktowne Boulevard extension upon build-out of the sites.

Staff recommends Council approve Concurrency and Fair Share Agreement and the Public Improvement Agreement.
City Manager Comments: I have added this item to the Agenda. We are still working on the Public Improvement Agreement for Altamira. You have seen the correspondence back and forth between the parties over the past several days. The Altamira developer has agreed that the Taylor Road portion of the project should not be included in the cost since this is a County requirement, not a City requirement. The improvements that are happening at the Dunlawton and Taylor Branch are eligible cost since those are related to the DRI funds. From correspondence that I received from the County, it appears that the church access on Taylor Road has been addressed. The County is awaiting re-submittal from the developer’s engineers making the modifications. I have questioned the cost provided us concerning the lane improvement cost on Dunlawton Avenue. It appears that we are close to having those finalized. Margaret is finishing the document and it probably will be submitted to you Thursday. If the item is not completed, then we will withdraw the item from the City Council Agenda and move it to the 24th.

Good morning Ken and Margaret,
I am confused as to how some $3 million in taxpayer land acquisition at Altamira has progressed as far as it has in terms of placement on the Council agenda without the City having received independent appraisals regarding same.
In any event I understand the City has recently received an appraisal provided by others , and would request a copy of same.
Thank you

LOTS OF LUCK!
A new Priest at his first mass was so nervous he could hardly speak. After mass he asked the Monsignor how he had done. The Monsignor replied, "When I am worried about getting nervous on the pulpit, I put a glass of vodka next to the water glass. If I start to get nervous, I take a sip." So next Sunday he took the Monsignor's advice. At the beginning of the sermon, he got nervous and took a drink. He proceeded to talk up a storm. Upon his return to his office after the mass, he found the following note on the door: 1) Sip the vodka, don't gulp. 2) There are 10 commandments, not 12. 3) There are 12 disciples, not 10. 4) Jesus was consecrated, not constipated. 5) Jacob wagered his donkey, he did not bet his ass. 6) We do not refer to Jesus Christ as the late J.C.. 7) The Father, Son, and Holy Ghost are not referred to as Daddy, Junior and the Spook. 8) David slew Goliath; he did not kick the shit out of him.. 9) When David was hit by a rock and was knocked off his donkey, don't say he was stoned off his ass. 10) We do not refer to the cross as the 'Big T.' 11) When Jesus broke the bread at the last supper he said, "Take this and eat it for this is my body." He did not say,"Eat me." 12) The Virgin Mary is not called 'Mary with the Cherry'. 13) The recommended grace before a meal is not: Rub-A-Dub-Dub thanks for the grub, Yeah God. 14) Next Sunday there will be a taffy pulling contest at St. Peter's nota peter pulling contest at St. Taffy's. The Origination of this letter is unknown, but it brings good luck to everyone who passes it on. The one who breaks the chain will have bad luck. Do not keep this letter. Do not send money just forward it to twelve of your friends to whom you wish good luck and a great laugh. You will see that something good happens to you four days from now if the chain is not broken..

For centuries, explorers and archaeologists have been trying to locate the submerged ruins of this legendary city. | Friday, January 20, 2012 ____________________________________________________ 8:00 PM-9:00 PM -- UFO Hunters - Underground Alien Bases It could be one of the darkest and most sinister secrets in the entire field of UFO investigation: human-alien genetic experiments, reportedly going on deep below the New Mexico desert brush in an underground base. There are even accounts of an uprising and a shootout between humans and rebellious alien Greys. Our team will investigate this far out story which includes testimony from a former homicide detective and undercover operative who have thoroughly investigated the region, interviews with UFO eyewitnesses, and a rare visit to a once top secret government facility--all to determine what lies beneath the sands of what's called the "Valley of Fear." 9:00 PM-10:00 PM -- Ancient Aliens - Alien Devastations If ancient aliens visited Earth, were they responsible for catastrophes, wars and other deadly disasters to control the fate of the human race? The story of the Great Flood sent by deities to destroy civilizations exists in many prehistoric cultures. There are ancient descriptions of extraterrestrial battles that caused wide-scale destruction, and even reports of UFOs lurking in the shadows of recent natural disasters. The Book of Revelations and the Dead Sea Scrolls describe a future apocalyptic battle between good and evil that will destroy our world. Are these ancient texts proof that aliens are hostile and planning a violent return? Or might they be our saviors, ensuring our survival as a species during times of devastation? 10:00 PM-12:00 AM -- Ancient Aliens - Alien Tech Super-heated death rays... High-tech rockets... Powerful sonic weapons... Are these examples of modern day science or could these technologies have originated thousands of years ago? Is it possible that early man possessed scientific knowledge far beyond that of our own century? Ancient texts, folklore and art suggest humans witnessed disc-shaped flying machines and fire-spewing chariots. Could these be accounts of flying saucers and rocket ships? And if so, was advanced technology left here by visitors from the stars? Did mankind's quest to unlock the secrets of levitation, anti-gravity and laser technology merely spring from our imaginations or did these ideas come from otherworldly beings? |

Found the following quote from Charles Austin Beard, thought it rather accurate. -- Larry in Florida"There is but one way to know the truth, and that is not a golden one.It is fraught with toil and sacrifice and perhaps ridicule. The seeker of the truth must be fearless,he must not be afraid to enter the innermost holies of holies and to tear down the veils of superstition that hang about any human or so-called divine institution,it is truth that makes men free.If the truth tears down every church and government under the sun,let the truth be known and the truth will only be known when men cease to swallow the capsules of ancient doctors of divinities and politics;and when men begin to seek the truth in the records of history, politics, religion, and science.

HankThis one sentence from an MSNBC Article tells it all."Passengers continued to make their way home, with consistent claims that crew members were ill prepared to handle an emegency evacuation."Also every article I have found mentions a mixed crew from all over the world which makes any cooperation difficult because of language barrier. Most people faced with a catastrophe automatically revert back to using their native language and communication becomes chaotic.I guess it is the old seaman in me that says no thanks to any cruise ship trip that does not fly the flag of the U.S.and hve an American Union Crew.Larry
HankNo one has asked me,but here is a personal observation of Romney. He appears to be a Disney Automotron that is mouthing a tape recording and from the mechanical expressions and movements it appears he does not believe what is coming out of his mouth. I would not trust him to help me cross a street much less Govern this Country. Like all Venture Capitalist he would probably abandon you in mid intersction and pick up a more affluent individual going the other way to help. It is all about money to his type and it is how much money he can job out of the system for himself. We have all met the likes of Romney in the past and should be able to stear clear of them.Larry Smith
“[Very rich people] with brains make a great effort to hold on to every penny they have while preaching to the general population that freedom and dignity and patriotism are possible only under their protection; in this way they elicit the support of the very people they hold in subjection.”

First, from Donohue and Levitt’s The Impact of Legalized Abortion on Crime, which argued that the legalisation of abortion contributed to later declines in crime:
More interesting and important is the possibility that children born after abortion legalization may on average have lower subsequent rates of criminality for either of two reasons. First, women who have abortions are those most at risk to give birth to children who would engage in criminal activity. Teenagers, unmarried women, and the economically disadvantaged are all substantially more likely to seek abortions. Recent studies have found children born to these mothers to be at higher risk for committing crime in adolescence. Gruber, Levine, and Staiger, in the paper most similar to ours, document that the early life circumstances of those children on the margin of abortion are difficult along many dimensions: infant mortality, growing up in a single-parent family, and experiencing poverty. Second, women may use abortion to optimize the timing of child-bearing. A given woman’s ability to provide a nurturing environment to a child can fluctuate over time depending on the woman’s age, education, and income, as well as the presence of a father in the child’s life, whether the pregnancy is wanted, and any drug or alcohol abuse both in utero and after the birth. Consequently, legalized abortion provides a woman the opportunity to delay childbearing if the current conditions are suboptimal. Even if lifetime fertility remains constant for all women, children are born into better environments, and future criminality is likely to be reduced.
Second, from Bryan Caplan’s Selfish Reasons to Have More Kids
:
Parents have little or no effect on criminal behavior. …
In 1984, Science published a study of almost 15,000 Danish adoptees age fifteen or older, their adoptive parents, and their birth parents. … As long as the adoptee’s biological parents were law abiding, their adoptive parents made little difference: 13.5 percent of adoptees with law-abiding biological and adoptive parents got convicted of something, versus 14.7 percent with law-abiding biological parents and criminal adoptive parents. If the adoptee’s biological parents were criminal, however, upbringing mattered: 20 percent of adoptees with law-breaking biological and law-abiding adoptive parents got convicted, versus 24.5 percent with law-breaking biological and adoptive parents. Criminal environments do bring out criminal tendencies. Still, as long as the biological parents were law abiding, family environment made little difference.
In 2002, a study of antisocial behavior in almost 7,000 Virginian twins born since 1918 found a small nurture effect for adult males and no nurture effect for adult females. The same year, a major review of fifty-one twin and adoption studies reported small nurture effects for antisocial attitudes and behavior. For outright criminality, however, heredity was the sole cause of family resemblance.
The lesson: Even if your standards are low, instilling character is hard. Genes are the main reason criminal behavior runs in families.
How much of the abortion-crime link (to the extent it is real) is driven by elimination of those more genetically predisposed to crime?
