5 ARRESTED IN BLUNDERED CAR THEFT SCHEME
Slipping into a secured parking lot full of tempting cars to steal was the only part of the plan five defendants managed to get right early Wednesday morning. Everything fell apart for the males, a mixture of adults and teens, when they couldn’t get the four vehicles they had selected through the locked gates of the Manheim Auto Auction lot near Daytona Beach. They finally abandoned their prizes, hopped the fence and sped away in the car they had arrived in. But they were no match for the teamwork of Volusia County Sheriff’s Office deputies, New Smyrna Beach police officers and a Sheriff’s Office helicopter. The law enforcement officers had all of the escape routes covered and after puncturing the getaway car’s tires, they apprehended the would-be thieves.
The incident started when a security guard spotted a vehicle driving around in the secured Auto Auction parking lot – at 1305 Indian Lake Road – shortly after 3 a.m. She notified her partner, and the two then saw other vehicles also on the move. The first guard called 911 to report the suspicious activity and tried to stop the vehicles. Then the guards saw the four vehicles line up at the exit where the drivers revved the engines as if to prompt the guards to open the gates. The vehicles, worth a combined total of $80,000, were a 2010 Nissan Murano, two 2010 Nissan Maximas, and a 2009 Infiniti G37 coupe. When the guards refused to let them free, the defendants panicked and drove around the parking lot, apparently looking for another way out. While doing so, one driver wrecked one of the Maximas into a parked 2007 Nissan Pathfinder. Finally, the frustrated guys got out of the vehicles and hopped a nearby fence.
They weren’t in the clear, though, as deputies quickly converged on the area and spotted the fleeing car. Deputies tried pulling the car over, but the driver instead sped away and got onto I-4. But other deputies were waiting there and used stop sticks to deflate some of the tires. The defendants kept going, though, as they were tracked from overhead by helicopter. The car exited the interstate to State Road 44 heading toward I-95. Positioned in their path were New Smyrna Beach police officers with stop sticks that scored more hits on the tires. This finally ended the defendants’ flight, and all five car occupants were taken into custody. Two of the defendants, David Williams and David Ogeris, were taken by deputies to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach to be treated for cuts inflicted by razor wire on the fence they had climbed over. Both were released back to deputies. Christopher Mason was the getaway driver who stayed in the car – which belonged to his parents – while the other four entered the Auto Mall.
The defendants, who were all from Orlando, were transported to the Volusia County Branch Jail or the Volusia Regional Juvenile Detention Center. Their names and charges are:
Christopher Mason, 21: aggravated fleeing and eluding, commercial burglary, four counts of auto theft, criminal mischief, and violation of probation.
Darrius Lowe, 19: commercial burglary, four counts of auto theft, criminal mischief, and violation of probation. Lowe also had an arrest warrant out of Orange County for aggravated fleeing and eluding.
David Ogeris, 17: commercial burglary, four counts of auto theft, criminal mischief.
David Williams, 19: commercial burglary, four counts of auto theft, criminal mischief.
Tacordon Riggins, 18: commercial burglary, four counts of auto theft, criminal mischief.

A jail inmate found hanging Sunday night in his cell from his bed sheet has died. Christopher Jodon, who was being housed at the Volusia County Branch Jail in Daytona Beach while awaiting trial on a murder charge, died Wednesday morning.
The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office arrested the 44-year-old Jodon last month, accusing him of stabbing his former girlfriend -- Jackie Miller -- to death after disabling her car by ramming it along I-4 near Lake Helen. Jodon was being housed in a segregation unit at the jail, where corrections officers checked on him every 15 minutes. He was observed by corrections officers to be in good condition when he was checked at 6:16 p.m. on Sunday evening. But during the next check at 6:31 p.m., corrections officers found Jodon hanging from a bed sheet that had been wrapped around a mirror in his cell. Corrections officers cut the bed sheet and began performing CPR on Jodon, who had a weak pulse but was unresponsive. Paramedics quickly arrived to take over resuscitation efforts, and then Jodon was transported by EVAC ambulance to the Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach.
Jodon was pronounced dead at the hospital at approximately 10:30 a.m. The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
While Kayla Bellantoni remains at large, her baby has been recovered safe and sound. Bellantoni dropped the baby off with a relative on Wednesday, and the relative delivered the baby early Wednesday afternoon to the Florida Department of Children & Families, in compliance with the court order.
Bellatoni left after dropping off the baby, and her exact whereabouts are still unknown at this time. An arrest warrant has been issued for Bellantoni for violation of her pre-trial conditions associated with pending criminal charges against her of being an accessory to armed robbery and aggravated battery with a firearm.

DEPUTIES SEEKS HELP IN LOCATING ABSCONDED DELAND TEEN
The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help in locating a 17-year-old DeLand girl who fled with her 2-month-old child after the teen learned that a judge had ordered the baby into state custody. Kayla Bellantoni also is facing felony charges of being an accessory to armed robbery and aggravated battery with a firearm.
The criminal case against Bellantoni is working its way through the courts, where prosecutors have decided to charge the girl as an adult. On Aug. 4, a warrant was issued for Bellantoni’s arrest after she failed multiple drug tests that were a required as part of her pre-trial conditions. Meanwhile, the State Department of Children & Families has obtained an order to take custody of Bellantoni’s baby son, Gene Cuddy. But before the state could step in, someone apparently tipped off Bellantoni. The teen called DCF on Aug. 2 and agreed to come in the next day. But she never showed up and is now believed to be on the run with the baby. All attempts by authorities to locate her have been unsuccessful.
Bellantoni’s last known address was 327 S. Virginia Ave. in DeLand. She’s 5’1” and weighs approximately 135 pounds and has brown hair, brown eyes and a scar on her right hand. Anyone with information on her whereabouts is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office or Crime Stoppers of Northeast Florida, toll-free, at (888) 277-TIPS. Resident can also text a tip by texting “TIP231 plus the message” to CRIMES. Tipsters who provide information to Crime Stoppers will remain anonymous and can qualify for a reward of up to $1,000. Anyone who prefers to talk directly to a deputy can call Sheriff’s investigator Todd Raible at (386) 943-7866. However, only callers to Crime Stoppers will qualify for a reward.

8-10pm -- Ancient Aliens
What if life on Earth began in outer space? Millions of people accept the theory that intelligent life forms visited Earth thousands of years ago and were worshiped as gods by primitive man. Are monuments like Stonehenge and Easter Island the last remains of an ancient alien visitation? From unexplainable super structures, to knowledge of the solar system, mathematics, and even the ability to make electricity, this special explores evidence of super-human influences on ancient man and embarks on an around-the-world search for answers. It's an investigation into a theory some believe cannot be true, but many agree cannot be ignored. (2009 special.)

Well, my father died earlier three months ago and left my mother I and my junior brother behind. He was a Royal king in our community, which our town citizens titled him before his death. APPLYING FOR A MORTGAGE
AFTER THE WALL STREET DEBACLE!
I would like to report, that the mortgage which my son John and I are applying for,
has still not been approved. The financial situation of both applicants is not the problem
regarding this mortgage, which after down payment, will only amount to about $51,000.
The underwriters have been crossing "crossing their "T", three or four times,
resulting in a process which is ludicrous and gibberish.
After 3 months, of weekly requests for more information in different forms
from the underwriters, the underwriters will not accept a letter from our Home Owners
Association that they approve of our buying the home unit, but want to speak to
a Home Owner Association board member on the phone.
In addition, after supplying 4 months of bank statements and 2 years of IRS
returns, the underwriters now want to speak to John's landlord, and verify
the amount of rent he is paying for his apartment in Port Jefferson.
There is so much more that I can report, but it is nauseating.
Although this underwriting company has gone to extremes,
I understand from the real estate community, that prolonged approval of
mortgages by underwriters is generally taking a longer time than we
are use to.
I understand that corrections in the financial backing of mortgage applications
had to be implemented, but there is a point when needless duplication
turns the system into gibberish.
And I would point out , that neither the buyer nor seller in this sale have a need
for a speedy solution. But I have empathy for any buyer or seller
who might be going through a process such as this, living out of card board
boxes, and ready to immediately move out or in, upon final approval of
the mortgage loan.
If I get support from my family, I would like to conduct interviews of
people in the field about this underwriting process, which I understand
is prevalent in all mortgage application processes. I would like to
go down to Miami and interview our mortgage company,
and the underwriting company, to learn their perspective on
this mad hatter game.
With this posting, I am tipping off the news media, that there is probably
a story in this area of concern that they might be interested in pursuing.
I will supply the details of our case to them, if they are interested.

The victim has been positively identified as 42-year-old Jacqueline Delrey
The victim has been positively identified as 42-year-old Jacqueline Delrey. The Volusia County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the identification late Tuesday afternoon through Delrey’s dental records. Due to the decomposition of the remains, the cause of death was not immediately able to be determined. The investigation by the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office’s Major Case Unit is ongoing, and additional forensic analysis of the remains will be conducted in an effort to determine the cause of Delrey’s death.

Update #3
A renewed effort on Friday by a volunteer search and rescue organization to go back over densely wooded areas of the search site with cadaver dogs has resulted in the recovery of additional human remains. At this point, most of the entire bodily remains have been located and will be turned over to the Volusia County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The remains have not been positively identified and are pending additional examination. Thus far, nothing of evidentiary value has been located near the remains to help in the identification or explain how the victim died. More information will be released as developments dictate.
From: Davidson, Gary Sent: Tuesday, August 24, 2010 3:43 PM To: Davidson, Gary Subject: VCSO Update #2: Search continues for additional human remains
Update #2:
The investigation is ongoing this afternoon.
Given that the remains were not completely decomposed and their location was within approximately three miles of where Jacqueline Delrey went missing, investigators are looking into the possibility that the remains may be Jacqueline. In furtherance of the investigation, the Sheriff’s Office will be seeking to confirm or rule out the possibility through a DNA comparison. To do this, we will be using the DNA from the leg and comparing it to the DNA of one of Jacqueline’s relatives in order to make that determination.
Additionally, the Sheriff’s Office has requested the assistance of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission in locating and trapping an approximately 9-foot alligator that was seen nesting in Lake Beresford, in close proximity to where the leg was found.

Update #1:
Volusia County Sheriff’s Office divers are back out at Lake Beresford this morning, continuing to search for additional human remains after a partially-decomposed leg was found at an adjacent park Sunday night. The Sheriff’s Office mounted an extensive search of the site on Monday, using divers, investigators, crime scene technicians, an air boat and cadaver dogs brought in by a volunteer search and rescue organization. Thus far, the search hasn’t turned up any additional remains or anything of evidentiary value that would aid in the identification of the remains.
The Volusia County Medical Examiner’s Office will arrange for a forensic analysis of the leg in an effort to determine whether it came from a male or female. More information will be released as developments dictate.
